Rob and Barbara Clemens
Rob is a 5th generation New Zealander of Irish, English and Welsh heritage, while Barbara has a mix of Australian and Irish roots - but we are both very proud of our stunning home country, New Zealand; named "Aotearoa" in the indigenous Maori language; "The Land of the Long White Cloud".

We have a grown-up family of two sons and two daughters; currently have seven grandchildren with six granddaughters and one grandson - lucky him in the future!
Most of Barbara's and Rob's childhood was spent growing up in Lower Hutt, Wellington.
We have friends scattered not only across the country but across the world. We have recently moved to the wonderful Hawkes Bay and now look forward to the many visits by friends & family, as well as local & international B&B guests. We love this "Wine Country" and it brings Rob closer to his much-loved vineyards work when he can get away from his busy graphic design & print management business.

We have travelled to many areas around New Zealand - it's not far to travel but boy, is it diverse. Consequently we know our country quite well and can advise you on your travel itinerary if required. We're here in Hawke’s Bay which is one of New Zealand’s best places to live with a fantastic climate. We grew up in the Hutt Valley, worked in both Lower Hutt and Wellington for many years, lived for years on the fabulous Kaipti Coast 50km north of Wellington and have friends & family in most places around New Zealand. Hawkes Bay itself, is known as the Fruit Bowl of New Zealand where there is almost every variety. We are also one of New Zealand’s leading areas of award-winning wines. This is Hawke’s Bay Wine Country and home to many world-famous wineries including our friends, Clearview Wine Estate; Te Awanga situated on the coastline in sight of the Cape Kidnappers peninsula, gannet colony and hilltop golf course.

Barbara is an artist who paints in oils. "Hi, Barbara here - I'm passionate about the subjects I paint; NZ native wildlife and birds and peoples' pets and my paintings reflect that. Our New Zealand landscape is so accessible that we are in nature every single day. Hawkes Bay has many historic buildings, architecture, wide-open spaces, horticulture and so much scenic beauty - so it's easy to see how immersed we are in the wonder that is our little part of 'GodZone'. I take painting commissions - I can work from photos therefore distance is no problem when it comes to commissioned work for my very satisfied clients. I am often told that I am a superb cook, I also am a knitter of toddlers and kiddies jackets. Ask me to show you my latest creation - I give them away as gifts to friends and family that have new-born or young children and I can sell to you under my casual label brand "Nanny-Bs handmade with love".

Rob's Passion and Joy: "I love my wine - growing and tending as well as the end result; guest sampling sessions from our wine collection! We moved to Hawkes Bay so that I could be closer to my passion - grapes. I prune grape vines in winter and do the occasional harvest week with our friends at Clearview Estate in Te Awanga.
My Joy is Holistic healing - especially with my crystal singing bowls. I have found my spiritual side in my later years; I have been fortunate to have been attuned Level Two Reiki energy healing and I also perform Sound Healing sessions; with Guided Meditations, privately and in groups, allowing participants to re-discover their bliss and joy within a safe and soft environment. I describe the results of the sound healing from the bowls as "The easy way to meditate: lie down, zone out, float away." You will find a bowls session spiritually uplifting and blissful. I also love discussing spiritual perspective and esoterics.
Syncronicity is totally believable when you stay here - feel free to realise that the Universe has brought you here for a reason!"

Our Pets: One of our other focuses (besides our grandchildren, painting, cooking, vineyards and gardening) is our two lovely pedigree Lhasa Apso puppies Sarah and Jessica; sisters from the same litter, cute and cuddly, loved by all and almost inseparable sisters - and Barbara since they constantly follow her around the house. Sarah and Jessica are well groomed, house-trained, shed no hair and are very guest-friendly as they love a cuddle.
Spencer our lovely pedigree Burmese, (pictured above), is the Main Man about the house and has our puppies under control. He's also very friendly to visitors but like all Burmese, craves attention.

We have a garden that you will love to wander through. We are establishing our second "Eden" in this new environment and we expect a few challenges along the way. Our garden may possibly be a challenging work-in-progress for a wee while, but nothing we can't handle. Please feel free to explore our garden and pass comment as feed-back is most welcome. A few years back it was planted with many native trees and bushes to attract the birds means we have native Bellbird (Korimako)and Tui (Tui) along with other native birds the Wax-eye (Tauhou) and Fantail (Piwakawaka) playing regularly amongst the branches and flitting down to bathe in the nearby birdbath and fountain. With the occasional Wood Pigeon flitting through and at night, our small native owl, the Morepork (Ruru), sounding a haunting call from nearby trees.

We love to travel and to hear of other peoples' travels to somewhere exotic. It is quite likely that we will have something in common with our guests in the places that they have visited.

We both love meeting people - it's exciting to have such a wonderful opportunity to meet the guests who will come to stay with us in our Bed & Breakfast. Whether you are from New Zealand or from overseas, you'll receive a very warm welcome into our home.

So come and be pampered in our little piece of paradise. You will be our focus during your stay and we will endeavour to assist you in any way possible. We are positive that you will not be disappointed that you came to stay in Havelock North at The Loft Art Studio and premium Bed and Breakfast.

Regards, Rob and Barbara
